Astrid Hesse, Psy.D., is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with ten years counseling experience and a broad array of expertise including individual therapy, family therapy, domestic violence counseling, forensic hardship evaluations, and disabilities assessments. She holds certificates in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Family Counseling. She has advanced training in neuropsychologic testing and counseling familes and patients with special needs. Dr. Hesse completed her BA in Economics and Psychology at Maclester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and her doctorate of Clinical Psychology at the Adler School of Professional Psychology in Chicago, IL. She completed her post-doctoral training at Trinity Services in Joliet, IL., and Hartgrove Hospital in Chicago, IL. She served as director of Latino Services and the Domestic Violence counseling program at Counseling Centers of Lakeview in Chicago, IL., and most recently held a faculty appointment at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Family Clinic affiliated with the Department of Developmental Disabilities.
I work with a clientele of individuals and families of all ages and diverse backgrounds. I am fluent in three languages and provide services in English, Spanish and German. My specific areas of interest include but are not limited to providing counseling services for the treatment of depressive/affective and anxiety disorders.
I have worked and trained in both general and psychiatric hospitals, university clinics, residential settings, as well as community mental health centers where I have gathered expertise working with adolescents, adults and families faced with multiple challenges. I have extensive experience working with individuals that suffer from psychiatric illness and medically complex histories that often lead to interpersonal, behavioral and developmental challenges.
My interest is in working with individuals and their loved ones to help facilitate self discovery, personal growth, and improvement in quality of life. I focus on utilizing an individual’s resilience and personal resources to empower themselves when faced with adversity. Through all of my professional experience I have learned the importance of working as a part of interdisciplinary team. My philosophy of treatment is based upon a systems of care model that relies on providing evidenced based treatment with comprehensive support services which involve advocacy and collaborative care.
