Individual, Couples, & Family Therapy
We will begin therapy by attempting to understand your difficulties in the context of your family, friends, partner, work environment, and culture. Our first few sessions will involve an evaluation of your needs. By the end of the evaluation, We will offer you some first impressions of what our work will include and a treatment plan to follow. Feel free to evaluate this information and share your own opinion and if you decide to continue with therapy, and comfortable working with me.
Therapy involves a commitment of time, money, and energy, so you should be thoughtful about the therapist you select. If you have questions about my procedures or the work we are doing, we should discuss them whenever they arise. We may first focus on symptom relief early on. This may include among others, symptoms of stress such as sleep problems, anxiety, over eating, social isolation, depressive symptoms or panic. During sessions, we will also jointly examine your pattern of difficulties, and explore alternative behaviors and thoughts.
Please note that at first, regular weekly sessions are essential. If we do not see each other weekly at first, it may be very difficult to learn about you and your difficulties. In addition, Weekly sessions provide the fastest relief of symptoms, which is important early in therapy.
Most adults that we treat struggle with issues that either reoccur or are a consequence of past events. We assist our adult patients to identify the connection between past and present circumstances and help them to effectively restructure maladaptive patterns in their life. Together, we develop useful strategies to overcome and manage current difficulties and to promote enduring growth and happiness. We utilize Integrated Psychotherapy methods a combination of CBT and Psychodynamic Therapies to best support health issues and mental disorders.
Our work with couples focuses on improving communication and resolving individual issues, which might interfere with the partnership’s functionality. We work with couples to stimulate growth and happiness while we eliminate those factors that may be sabotaging the relationship.
Typically families seek therapy when at least one member struggles with a problem. Often the issue creates considerable discord within the family, and makes the home a tense and unhappy place to live. In family therapy, the whole family, not the person, is the “patient” with the problem. We assist the family to communicate and problem-solve to promote harmony within the home.
Psychotherapy is not a quick fix or an easy answer. It is a complex and rich process that, over time, can reduce symptoms, provide insight, and improve functioning and quality of life.
